Okay, adventure junkies, listen up! If you're looking for a real off-road challenge in Nevada, Camel Peak is calling your name. We're talking a summit way up there at 9,438 feet, nestled in White Pine County.

Now, this isn't your Sunday drive. The road is gravel, and it gets seriously rocky and bumpy – you'll be tipping and tilting for sure. Winter? Forget about it. This road is snowed in, inaccessible. This is strictly for experienced off-roaders with serious 4x4s, who aren't afraid of heights.

Be prepared for a seriously steep climb! If it's wet, that gravel turns into a muddy mess. Oh, and if you're feeling extra adventurous, a smaller gravel track at the peak goes even higher to 10,301 feet. The views? Totally worth it. The bragging rights? Priceless.

Where is Mount Mitchell?moderate

Where is Mount Mitchell?

🇺🇸 Usa

Okay, road trip lovers, listen up! Ever heard of Mount Mitchell in North Carolina? It's the highest point east of the Mississippi, clocking in at a whopping 6,584 feet above sea level! You'll find this beauty about 35 miles northeast of Asheville. Just hop on North Carolina Highway 128 (NC 128), and get ready for a scenic 4.5-mile drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway right to the top. Word to the wise: weekends can get a little congested, so plan accordingly! Now, this isn't a flat joyride. Expect some pretty steep climbs, with gradients hitting almost 10% in sections. You'll gain about 1,400 feet in elevation, so your car will definitely get a workout. The road's generally open year-round, nestled in the Black Mountain range. But, pro tip, if the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed due to bad weather, you're out of luck. And keep an eye out for strong winds! Speaking of weather, pack layers! It's usually way cooler up there than in Asheville. Like, 10-30 degrees cooler. Plus, the weather can change on a dime, and the summit's often shrouded in clouds and fog. Try to time your visit for a super clear day in Asheville for the best views. So, is it worth it? Absolutely! The views are insane. Think endless Blue Ridge Mountains, rolling hills, and lush valleys. The state park itself is almost 2,000 acres of pure tranquility. At the summit, you'll find an observation deck where, on a clear day, you can see up to 85 miles! There's also a museum, shop, restrooms, and even a restaurant (open spring to fall). Trust me, you don't want to miss this one.

The killer Old Priest Grade Road in California hits a 20% of max gradient

🇺🇸 Usa

Okay, thrill-seekers, buckle up for Old Priest Grade Road in Tuolumne County, California! Nestled in the Western Sierra mountains, this isn't your average Sunday drive. This baby is *steep* – we're talking gradients pushing 20% in places! It's only 1.8 miles long, winding from Moccasin to Priest, but those miles pack a punch. Forget bringing your RV or truck; this road's for passenger vehicles only (under 7,500 pounds). It's paved, sure, but don't let that fool you. This former Indian path-turned-wagon route, dating back to the Gold Rush era, is twisty, turny, and can get slick when wet. Rock slides are a real possibility, so keep your eyes peeled! Plus, being a popular route to Yosemite, you'll likely have company. Oh, and did I mention the hills? Prepare for some serious brake action and potential overheating, especially on those scorching summer days. With grades hitting nearly 20%, this climb is no joke. But hey, if you're up for the challenge, the views are absolutely breathtaking! Just make sure your ride is reliable, and your nerves are steady!
