Okay, road trip enthusiasts, buckle up for the Lootsberg Pass in South Africa's Eastern Cape! This beauty clocks in at a lofty 1,781 meters (that's 5,843 feet!), making it the highest pass in the Great Karoo.

Legend has it that the pass is named after Hendrik Loots, whose carriage met an unfortunate end back in the day. But don't let that scare you! Andrew Geddes Bain carved the first road through here back in 1858, and now it's fully paved as the N9.

This epic drive stretches for 106 kilometers (65.86 miles) between Middelburg and Graaff-Reinet, taking you on a north-south adventure. Word to the wise: winters here can be brutal, and heavy snowfall sometimes leads to accidents. So, keep an eye on the forecast and drive safe!

Tizi Itbirne

🇲🇦 Morocco

Alright, adventure seekers, buckle up for Tizi Itbirne, a seriously stunning mountain pass tucked away in Morocco's Fès-Meknès region! We're talking Atlas Mountains territory here, so get ready for some epic scenery. This beauty tops out at 1,905 meters (that's 6,250 feet for my imperial friends!), and the road, the R507, is paved, but keep your eyes peeled – it can get a bit narrow and winding in places. Don’t expect crazy steep climbs, though; it's manageable. This road connects Tamtroucht and Tmourghout, so you know you're in for a treat. Just a heads up: this is a high-altitude pass, so winter snow is definitely a possibility. Pack accordingly and get ready for views that will blow your mind!

🇲🇦 Morocco

Okay, adventure seekers, buckle up! You absolutely HAVE to experience Tizi n’Tadermant, a seriously epic mountain pass clinging to the peaks of Morocco’s Drâa-Tafilalet region. But a word of warning: this isn’t your average Sunday drive! We’re talking roughly ** miles of rugged road**. You'll need a 4x4 - seriously, don't even think about attempting this in anything less! The road can be rough, but the views are absolutely breathtaking. Just picture yourself winding through the mountains, surrounded by incredible scenery that stretches as far as the eye can see. Keep an eye out for the hazards, but focus on that view of Tislit Lake. Tizi n’Tadermant, running east to west from Agoudal, is an adventure you won't soon forget!
